Sept 21st - Pinning Class Butterflies & Moths

With 8+ years experience in entomological preservation and restoration, all of which has been entirely self taught, I have refined down the main skills of my work into a series of different courses. Each one is entirely separate from the others, but all are designed to be complimentary.

I have refitted my old studio workshop, once a grade II listed village bicycle shop, into a teaching studio. Join me in the beautiful Norfolk countryside for a small, informal and relaxed class to learn the art of entomological preservation.

The studio location is easily accessible via car (with free on-street parking) and public transport. Just 3 miles from Diss train station - which is on the direct line between Norwich and London. There are bus services running frequently, with a stop less than a minutes walk from the studio. The full address is sent via email shortly before the course date.

Course details

Learn to pin and preserve a mix of butterfly and moth species from my insect stores. All species are responsibly sourced, which I will explain in detail on the day. Specimens will be relaxed in advance meaning we can begin working on them straight away.

Course runs from 10am - 2pm. Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand. You must be comfortable handling tweezers, pins and insects. No previous experience is required.

FAQ:

The studio is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. Although at ground level, the entrance is not wide enough for a wheelchair and the ground steps down into the studio by approximately 5”. The bathroom is also up steps and not wheelchair accessible.

I do not teach children under the age of 16. Ages 16-18 must be accompanied by an adult also on the course.

Classes will have a break around halfway. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are provided during this break but must not be consumed in the studio during teaching. No food may be consumed in the studio at any time.

Equipment, specimens and all materials are provided. You will take your work away at the end of the course to display at home.
