'Lenore' - 23.5ct Deep Gold White Tailed Bumblebee Gilded Wings (Bombus lucorum)

£89.00
Sold Out

This is Lenore. Lenore enjoys good books, being cosy (with a good book) and travelling by rail. Dislikes camping, crowded spaces and white chocolate.

She is a white tailed bumblebee (Bombus lucorum) with real gilded wings. Her wingspan measures approximately 37mm.

Lenore was part of a small colony of bumblebees that briefly inhabited a bird nest box in my neighbours garden. When the colony moved on (presumably they outgrew the little nest box) a few deceased bumble bees were left behind. Lenore was one of those, and her condition with the tattered wings and broken antenna show she had a busy life. I chose to work on her anyway, and while I did tidy up her fluff and straighten her out, I decided not to replace the broken parts. She is gilded and preserved exactly as she was.

This bumblebee has been individually preserved, pinned and gilded in layers of 23.5ct deep gold leaf in double weight (twice as much gold weight per leaf as standard gold leaf). All my bumblebees are sourced via natural death - sustainably and responsibly.

24ct gold leaf gilded bumblebees

Wings are hand gilded in layers of pure fine 24ct gold leaf. A warm, rich shine of opulence - exactly what these wonderful bumblebees deserve.

22ct rose gold gilded bumblebees

Wings are hand gilded in real layers of 22ct rose gold leaf. The rose gold leaf is made and hand-beaten into fine sheets in Italy, in the traditional manner. True rose gold has only been available for the last few years, after years of research from the famous Manetti family, originating in 1500 as gold suppliers.

Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipping, as each bee is set and gilded before being framed which takes a minimum of 14 days.
