A large and striking swallowtail butterfly from the family Papilionidae, first named by Distant in 1874. The wings have a base colour of deep black with bands of lemon yellow. Hindwings are the same with red and blue eyelike markings. This is a large species, with wingspan around 95-105mm. The Central Emperor Swallowtail is a tropical butterfly, originating from sub-Saharan Africa.
